Statement by Chairman Mike Rogers on the Signing of the
Haqqani Network Terrorist Designation Act by President Obama
Washington, D.C. – President Obama signed the Haqqani Netowrk Terrorist Designation Act into law on Friday, August 10, 2012. House Intelligence Committee Chairman made the following statement:
“I am pleased that the President signed the bill into law, and I hope that this will be a step toward designating the Haqqani network as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). As members of the House and Senate overwhelmingly agree, the Haqqani network is indeed a foreign terrorist organization responsible for killing hundreds of US troops in Afghanistan. An official FTO designation is a critical step allowing the United States to more aggressively undermine this terrorist network's support. I urge Secretary Clinton to call a spade a spade and make the FTO designation.”
