Washington, D.C. – Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10), Lead Republican of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued a statement following the announcement of the U.S. drone strike which killed al Qaeda's leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

“Over the weekend, members of the Intelligence Community put an end to Ayman al-Zawahiri’s reign of terror," said Turner. "Al-Zawahiri was the leader of al Qaeda and worked alongside Osama bin Laden for decades and carried out deadly attacks against U.S. citizens in Kenya, on the USS Cole and was a co-conspirator of the 9/11 attacks.

"When U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan last year, President Biden claimed al Qaeda was gone from Afghanistan. This strike tells us otherwise. The United States has brought justice to al-Zawahiri and the world is safer for it. The President must now turn his attention to the rising threats within Afghanistan.”
