House Intelligence Committee Chairman Turner Statement on Joint U.S.- Partner Strikes on Houthis
Washington, D.C., January 12, 2024
Today, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (OH-10) released the following statement:
“More than one month ago, I called on the Biden Administration to take decisive action against the Houthis, an Iranian-backed terrorist organization that is attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea.
“President Biden finally took action in response to these attacks. I look forward to seeing the assessment of what these attacks accomplished and the President’s plan to diminish the threats posed to American interests by Iranian-backed proxies.
“The Houthis and other Iranian-backed terrorist organizations are attacking American military personnel and equipment overseas. The United States cannot let this go unanswered.
“As the Houthis continue to target personnel and challenge the flow of commerce in the Middle East, it's time for the Biden Administration to reverse its decision to not designate the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.”
