WASHINGTON, DC— House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford (AR-01) issued the following statement on the 2025 Annual Threat Assessment from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI): “This ODNI threat assessment reinforces the fact that the U.S. needs to focus on the Western Hemisphere and prioritize defeating the adversaries wreaking havoc in our own neighborhood. Transnational criminal organizations, including cartels, human smuggling organizations, and terrorist organizations, have gained a foothold in the U.S. and our partner countries by leveraging four years of Biden’s open border policies. ODNI rightly called out this threat at the top of their assessment. “As we expected, China, Russia, Iran and North Korea topped the list of the most sophisticated adversaries pushing the boundaries just to see how far the U.S. will let them go. We are witnessing growing CCP influence and investment in the Western Hemisphere, making it clear the threat is now at our front door. The United States is in a great power competition with China and the outcome will shape the future of the global stage as we know it. To compete with China and win, a clear-eyed focus on the challenges we face must be at the forefront of every conversation about the security of the Western Hemisphere and the world. “As I have said before, simply being vigilant is no longer enough. Today’s threat environment demands a posture of persistent preparedness. President Trump and his administration will be playing cleanup for the next four years to reinstate the robust national security posture dismantled by the last administration. “I look forward to hearing from the new cadre of IC leadership at the upcoming Worldwide Threats hearing on how they will revive U.S. national security to defend against the threats of today and build resilience against the threats of tomorrow.” ###
