Crawford on Spain's Contract with Huawei to Manage Intelligence Wiretaps

WASHINGTON, D.C.— House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rick Crawford (AR-01) released the following statement in response to reports the Spanish government has contracted Huawei to manage intelligence agency wiretaps.

“This headline is almost unimaginable. Spain is playing with fire as it puts its national security and the safety of its citizens on the line. By leveraging a known agent of the CCP to collect and store insurmountable amounts of sensitive data, Spain has made itself vulnerable to clear threats to the security and sovereignty of not only itself but allies around the world. With every country that opens its doors to Huawei, they are only providing more opportunities for the CCP-controlled company to mine data used to advance the geopolitical goals of the CCP. As the CCP continues to rack up these ‘wins’ they become emboldened in taking on their next high-stakes influence endeavor. The global community must work together to defend against the destructive, widespread influence of the CCP.”
