Statement by Chairman Rogers on Director Clapper’s Announcement of Steps to Deter and Detect Leaks

“The leaking of classified national security information is intolerable at any level, but the parade of recent leaks requires action.  We must break this culture of unauthorized disclosures.  DNI Clapper’s announcement today is a good first step into not only deterring leaks, but also detecting when they happen so those responsible can be prosecuted.  Additionally, Ranking Member Dutch Ruppersberger, our Senate counterparts, Chairman Dianne Feinstein and Vice Chair Saxby Chambliss, and I are working in a bipartisan, bicameral way on legislative options to deter and detect leaks of classified information, and to hold leakers accountable.”
