Chairman Nunes Comments on Reported Deaths of al Qaeda Hostages

House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes today issued the following statement in response to reports that two hostages were accidentally killed during a counter-terrorism operation against al Qaeda:

“My thoughts and prayers are with the Weinstein and Lo Porto families during this difficult time. The United States is engaged in a worldwide battle against al Qaeda and other ruthless Islamist terrorists who continually seek to attack Americans at home and abroad. This battle is guided by our Intelligence Community, which has the difficult task of gathering reliable information about terrorists who inhabit dangerous parts of the world. Although our intelligence is outstanding, it is not perfect. Nevertheless, seeing as radical Islam continues to spread and jihadists have not given up the fight, our efforts to defeat them must continue.”
