Nunes Comments on State of the Union Speech

House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes issued the following statement today in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address:

“Tonight we saw President Obama's habit of downplaying the severity of the threats facing our nation. The truth is, the United States now faces the highest threat level since the 9/11 attacks. Our deteriorating national security position largely stems from the withdrawal of the United States, under President Obama’s direction, from its historic international leadership role. As a result, al Qaeda and ISIS have expanded globally, with their members and sympathizers launching deadly attacks in Europe and even in the American homeland. Throughout the world, power vacuums have appeared that rogue states and dangerous organizations are now competing to fill. I sincerely hope that in the last year of his presidency, President Obama comes to understand that the critical threats we face require a clear, realistic, and robust strategy based on confident American leadership that is sorely lacking today.”
