House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes issued the following statement on the nomination of General James Mattis as the next Secretary of Defense:

“I congratulate General Mattis on his nomination as Secretary of Defense. In light of his long list of accomplishments and decades of service to this nation, I can think of no better candidate to lead America’s military in our long fight against jihadism and in countering other pressing threats. I look forward to working with the House and Senate on adopting a waiver to allow General Mattis’ nomination to move forward.”
