| WASHINGTON, D.C — Today, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence held an open roundtable discussion with experts from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) to examine the technology and local implications of artificial intelligence datacenters. With increasingly heated public debate about artificial intelligence (AI) and datacenters, the complex technology and terminology can be a tricky landscape to navigate across a significant range of players. Roundtable briefers included Mr. Joseph Majkut, Director of Energy Security at CSIS, Ms. Lauryn Williams, CSIS Deputy Director of Strategic Technologies, and Mr. Aalok Mehta, CSIS Director of Wadhwani AI Center, to provide an independent technical perspective on the reality of AI datacenters. “AI datacenters are not inherently good or bad, they are the physical backbone of modern life, national security, and our economy,” said Chairman Crawford. “As public debate intensifies, we must stand by our neighbors and take a balanced approach that respects local community rights while also advancing our national security capabilities. Maintaining America’s technological lead over China is a vital national security priority — and securing our AI future depends on building the infrastructure to support it responsibly. We can and must get this right.” |
